Teaching English to Arabic learners
No two students of language will learn in the same way and therefore students can not all be taught in the same way.
As a teacher of English to non-native speakers I have spent many years working with international students from around the world.
However, with 10 years’ experience of living and working in the Middle East, my area of expertise, focuses on working with first language Arabic speakers.
When analyzing the needs of a student there is much more than just their English level to consider.
Often, how a student learns will be based on culture, their previous education experience and their expectations of what a language learning environment is.
Additionally, with Arabic learners, there is the right to left script pattern to consider, the difficulty in pronunciation of certain consonants, in particular ‘th’ ‘v’ ‘f’ and ‘b’ and grammatical, the verb ‘to be’ – used as the basis for so many structures in English, but which is far less usual within the Arabic language.
Even when working within a class environment, considering the needs of each student individually will always give the best results.

تعليم الطلاب جميعاً بطريقة واحدة. بصفتي مدرساً للغة الإنجليزية لغير الناطقين بها، فقد أمضيت سنوات عديدة في العمل مع الطلاب الدوليين من جميع أنحاء العالم. ومع ذلك، مع خبرة عشرة سنوات في العيش والعمل في الشرق الأوسط، فإن مجال خبرتي يركز على العمل مع الناطقين باللغة العربية كاللغة الأولى واللغة الأم.
عند النظر إلى احتياجات الطالب، يجب مراعاة أكثر من مجرد مستوى لغته الإنجليزية. حيث انه في كثير من الأحيان، تعتمد الطريقة التي يتعلم بها الطلاب على الثقافة وخبراتهم التعليمية السابقة وتوقعاتهم بشأن بيئة تعلم اللغة. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، مع متعلمي اللغة العربية، هناك نمط نصي من اليمين إلى اليسار يجب مراعاته، وصعوبة نطق بعض الحروف
لاسيما حروف العلة مثل: (v,f,b,th) والقواعد النحوية والفعل (To be) المستخدم كأساس للعديد من التراكيب في اللغة الإنجليزية، ولكنه أقل شيوعاً في اللغة العربية.
حتى العمل في بيئة الفصل، فأن مراعاة احتياجات كل طالب على حدة ستعطي دائماً نتائج أفضل.
